Thomas J. Johnson
Tom (TJ) was born in Huron, SD and raised in Miller, St. Lawrence, Redfield and finally Rapid City. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Montana in 1975 and attended University of South Dakota Law School graduating in December 1977 with a Juris Doctorate. TJ is admitted to practice in all South Dakota courts, the South Dakota Federal District Court, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
TJ has been a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now known as the American Association For Justice) for over 35 years. He is also a member of the National Association of Elder Care Attorneys and the Academy of Special Needs Planners; and TJ is a Sustaining Member of the National Association of Social Security Claims Representatives (NOSSCR).
TJ has provided service to the community by serving on the Boards and volunteering for many local charities and non-profits including Sioux Vocational Services, Inc. (aka Acheive and nka LifeScape), The Liberty Center (nka Here4Youth), Lunch is Served, East River Legal Services and Handi-Riders (nka HorsePower). He has also served on the South Dakota Parole Board as an appointee of the Attorney General and has been appointed to serve as counsel for Persons Alleged to be in Need of Protection and for children in guardianship disputes.
TJ resides in Sioux Falls with his wife Susan and continues to provide assistance to and care for his adult daughter, Kira, who is a person with disabilities.
